Wonderware Mobile Solutions
Decrease equipment downtime 1%
or more - Increase operating efficiencies up to 2%
- Increase workforce productivity up to 20% -
Decrease overall plant maintenance costs up to 5%
More and more, executive management groups are
driving an increased number of data intensive
initiatives. Programs such as Field
Operational Excellence Programs, Lean and Six
Sigma Initiatives, Process Safety Management
Initiatives, Operational Excellence Initiatives,
Compliance Initiatives, etc. All require
an integrated workforce and all require
significant amounts of data.
Why are these programs coming into existence?
Because Executive Management is trying to drive
increased performance and increased product
quality while adhering to the rules and
regulations that govern our manufacturing
operations. Increased workforce
productivity, increased asset performance, lower
maintenance and energy costs, continuous quality
improvement and avoidance of Health and Safety
violations are all key objectives.
Since upwards of 60% of plant assets are not and
cannot be tied to any automation system, the
problem that is faced is that we do not have the
systems in place to support the above goals and
initiatives. We attempt to support these
projects with a paper-based data collection
process driven by our most valuable assets - our
people. Every day, teams of operations
employees travel our plants with clip boards and
pencils recording volumes of disconnected data
that must eventually be combed through,
transferred to other systems and analyzed.
Wearing belts, leaking valves, excessive
equipment vibration, environmental sampling
rounds, fire extinguisher and eyewash station
checks, etc. will significantly impact your
plant performance and level of compliance but
trying to monitor these critical issues with
error prone paper based systems is clearly not
the answer.
Wonderware IntelaTrac solves the problem.
IntelaTrac can enable the disconnected worker
help monitor non-instrumented pieces of
equipment and assure that field operations and
field personnel execute against standard
operating procedures consistently and repeatedly
according to defined best practices. IntelaTrac
users can see step change process improvements
with rapid hard dollar paybacks, accountability
and total visibility based on intellig ent and
precise stewardship and corresponding
empowerment of their mobile workforce.
Additionally, the ability to begin
systematically collecting non-automated
information generated from day to day
operational rounds can serve to significantly
enhance the value of other key systems as the
loop between business-side and plant-side data
can be closed. This closed loop process can
drive significant value in overall equipment
performance, product quality and reductions in
maintenance costs and energy costs.
The payoff for improving support for mobile
workers comes in a variety of other ways as
well. Wonderware's Mobility Solution
(IntelaTrac) turns field staff, previously off
the radar when it comes to process optimization,
into a visible part of the designed processes of
the enterprise, operating according to standard
procedures with accountability and auditability.
Productivity can skyrocket, providing capacity
for mobile staff to handle additional
responsibilities for environmental, health and
safety regulations. What's more,
IntelaTrac 4.0 integrates with the Wonderware
System Platform providing users with an
integrated system capable of handling all of
their automated and non-automated information
collection and analysis. Finally, a
unified platform that truly supports the goals
executive management sets for the future of our
manufacturing and industrial organizations.

Industry
Application for Facilities Management
Traditional, closed
hardware/software bundled solutions for
Facilities Management are a thing of the past.
Most facilities Management Systems are bundled
hardware/software solutions that provide basic
control and monitoring capabilities but are not
state-of-the-art systems that allow users to
select from the best software front end coupled
with best hardware back end that they can
source. Additionally, these all-in-one solutions
are often very costly to maintain and once
purchased, lock users into a proprietary system
with limited support resources and expensive
upgrades. As users begin to understand this
scenario, they are beginning to take lessons
from their industrial counterparts and are
moving toward a paradigm where they can select
best-of-breed components that are easily
upgraded, and have large, independent talent
pools for installation and maintenance support.

Video
within your Plant Floor HMI
Longwatch, a
supplier of video monitoring hardware and
software products, was named by Wonderware as a
Certified Software Partner.
The Longwatch Video Surveillance System has been
integrated with Wonderware's InTouch HMI, Active
Factory, Historian and MES software in several
applications. The combination of Wonderware
software and Longwatch Video systems allows
operators in process control applications to see
live and archived video from the plant floor
directly on their Wonderware HMI screens. This
allows operators to "see" what is going on in a
process plant or factory without having to send
someone to the scene. The operator can also
"rewind" the video to see what happened a few
seconds or a few hours before an incident.
By integrating with the Wonderware ActiveFactory
trend chart object, Longwatch Video Historian
software simultaneously shows trend graphs of
user-selected variables (displayed as color
"pen" lines) with archived video. The video
panel and trend chart can be "linked"
(synchronized) with the click of a button on the
Viewer display. When the user clicks and drags
the chart object's time cursor (normally used
only for displaying the process variable's
engineering units value and status at a selected
point in time), the Video Historian also moves
the video forward or backward accordingly.
When Longwatch Operator Console Monitoring
software is employed on a Wonderware system,
everything that appears on the HMI-and
everything the operator enters from the keyboard
or mouse-is logged as a video stream, so a plant
can "play back" everything that happened during
an incident or event for analysis or training
purposes.
The Core
Components
- The Longwatch Video System consists of a
number of software modules that provide camera
management, video archiving, data management,
graphic display and system configuration. The
system uses a distributed system architecture,
to deliver performance, scalability and fault
tolerance.
- The Longwatch Video Historian is a
breakthrough in data management: automatically
linking and integrating real plant video to
process historian data to help
improve plant efficiency, documentation
regulatory compliance and operations management.
-
The Longwatch Operator's Console Recorder is a
software module that enables automatic recording
of your HMI or SCADA operator's console display.
With this tool, Longwatch archives exactly what
the operator was seeing, because it records the
video that's being sent to the display itself.
